Cherishing our age-old hand block printing practices

What is the first characteristic we look for while selecting a dress? Some may say it’s the design but deep down we all know it’s the fabric. As soon as we are interested in a dress, we touch it to feel the fabric, to ensure that the fabric is soft & soothing for the skin, that it will give us comfort. We would never choose a piece of clothing that is harsh on our skin no matter how stylish it may look.

The new era

While our parents still look for comfort in a fabric, our generation is more drawn towards style & glamour. We at Chapai are supporters of the former notion, comfort before glamour, which is evident from the types of collection we have. All our products are categorized into different collections based on the material of fabric they are made of. Every material is hand weaved topped with hand block paintings to enhance the look. Every collection portrays a different type of print which has its own story. The colors are inspired by nature to give a soothing effect to your wardrobe.

Our collections:

The name came to life through the combination of 2 beautiful words, Ajrakh and Rang. Ajrakh is an ancient block printing method with a 4000 years old history and is still practiced by the people in Kutch (Gujarat) and surrounding areas.

It is one of Chapai’s ‘kota doria’ fabrics, available in a variety of designs such as floral, abstract, etc. Kota Doria is a fabric made of tiny woven squares also known as ‘khats’ which are handwoven on a traditional pit loom in Kota and surrounding regions.

It is a hand weaved fabric with Banarasi weaving to establish a tranquil and spiritual tone. Golden ‘butti’ are hand-stitched to the fabric to enhance its beauty. A chiffon dupatta with digital prints on it adds further grace to the attire.

It is a cotton collection with hand block prints, all in pastel colors, notifying calmness & simplicity. The prints and colors are inspired by the soothing colors of the sky and the magic it unfolds.

The collection is dedicated exclusively to saree, the timeless beauty.

The sarees are handwoven with the famous kota doria work by the artisans of Kota. It is a lightweight fabric with a checkered pattern, perfect for you to flaunt in the monsoon season.

It is a 2-piece suit set consisting of digital flowers on the straight fit kurta, and a matching dupatta in linen, all adorned with delicate thread embroidery detailing making it perfect for intimate dinners.

It is a shiny, durable, transparent, and crease-resistant chanderi silk fabric. It can also be thought of as an upgraded version of net fabric. The digital flowers and embroidered threads further enhance the charm of the dupatta.

A hand block printed ‘buta’ pattern adorning the ‘mal mal noor’ dupatta. It consists of a lightweight dupatta woven in soft cotton mal fabric, paired with a zoya kurta to complete the look.

It’s one of the classic pieces stitched with a blend of kota fabric with hand block mal mal dupatta. It is perfect to ace those gloomy days with minimal effort.

The description provides a glimpse of the sustainable fabrics that we offer. Our motive is to acquaint people with the beauty of pure handmade fabrics & lead them towards a sustainable way of living.
