Celebrating our glamorous heritage by doing our bit
What pops up in your head when you hear ‘festivity’? General answers would be food, decoration, rituals, and attire. Yes, that’s right, any festival be it big or small is incomplete without certain basic things, one of those being the attire, the glamourous ethnic attires, which otherwise remain stored in a box. It’s beautiful how attire can change your whole mood. One moment things are all plain & mundane & the next moment you change the entire setting by adoring a vibrant ethnic outfit.
The concept of wearing something ethnic is deep-rooted in our country. Be it a Pooja, a festival, or even a small get-together, we like to dress up for the occasion with the best of ethnic wear we have. With India being such a diverse country, the parameter of what constitutes ethnic wear is quite broad. The attires take different turns as we go around the country. From Sarees to Salwar suits to Ghagaras & Lehengas, the options are numerous. Every attire compliments a festival, which quite explains the diversity of both our festivities & attires.
Ace any look with a simple touch of ethnicity
While the world is embracing & adorning our cultures, we seem to have drifted apart. When people around the globe are accepting our practices from our style of clothing to living, we are more attracted to the western culture. We have travelers from around the globe, visiting India just to explore the rich heritage we have, to adorn our traditional cultures. We love the western trends, but these people come to India to explore our handmade products & the comfort they provide.
Why travel the world, when we have diversity within our own country…
Every region has a special clothing style, worn every day by the people living there also curated by the artisans of that region. We too in our country have a lot of such talent. We have artisans & craftsmen in every corner, who have been in the line of making hand made clothes for generations. They have a very strong hand in their practice as they have been perfecting the art over decades. It is disheartening to know that people in our country have so much talent but we have very little care & support for them.
At Chapai, we value talents of all kinds. Be it big or small, every artist should be appreciated & his talent should be celebrated, otherwise, how will our country develop. When we saw what the fast fashion industry was doing to our artisans, we took it on ourselves to initiate change, thus the birth of Chapai. Our focus is on hand-made clothes with hand block printing, making the clothes sustainable & comfortable at the same time. The added warmth of handmade clothes is a bonus. As a brand we are trying to set an example, trend can be set through sustainable clothing as well & running behind the fast fashion industry isn’t the only way.
